Released 2007, the RE-20 is as close to a reissue as Roland/Boss has ever come. The RE-20 emulates the legendary Roland RE-201 that was released 1973 and proved very successful throughout the 70s. It is in fact still very popular and getting hold of the original will set you back a lot of money.
The original RE-201 was a tape echo. This means that the sound was recorded to a looping tape and replayed to create an echo effect. The RE-20 emulates the RE-201 by using COSM modeling. The 12 position mode selector is identical to the original switch and so are most of the other controls too. Due to digital electronics, the RE-20s delay time is longer than was possible with the original Space Echo.
